Reading & Writing School Programs: Atwater Elementary

Atwater Elementary in North Port, Florida has a wonderful program called, “Partners in Print.” Adults, parents, and older students volunteer to team up with kindergarten and first grade students to become their reading partner.

This program is important to help children gain interest in reading at a young age. Here are some of the fun events Partners in Print held for the children:

Fall Reading Festival

Polar Express Pajama Party

Sweet Treat Reading Party

Bunny Hop Reading Party

Beyond the joy of reading, Partners in Print have other benefits to offer:

Free book for every student

Free refreshments at every event

$75 worth of Publix (Grocery store) gift cards

Free “Surprises” for every student

Reading take-home activities for each family

The most important benefit is the opportunity for parents, along with older brothers and sisters, to bond with the younger children through reading. Michelle Kloese deserves a big round of applause for coordinating the Partners in Print program.

I wish Atwater Elementary continued success in helping students enjoy reading and writing. http://www.sarasotacountyschools.net/schools/atwater/
